Al Ahly managed to achieve a 2-1 victory over Al Ittihad on Wednesday in Matchday 20 of the Egyptian Premier League.
Al Ahly spurned a slew of goal scoring chances in the first half as Al Ittihad managed to block all the attempts away from their net.
In the second half, Al Ahly’s Badr Benoun opened the score from the spot in the 50th minute to give his team the lead in the game.
The minutes went on and the Red Eagles kept their pressure, and in the 55th minute, Mohamed Magdy Afsha doubled the score from a sensational header.
Cairo Giants surged forward to net the third, and in the 63rd minute, Benoun visited Wl Ittihad’s net again and converted the ball into the back of the net. However, the referee disallowed the goal after checking the VAR due to an offside.
In the dying minutes of the game, Al Ittihad’s Mohamed El Sabahy scored his team’s only goal of the game.
Following today’s victory, Al Ahly reached 40 points in the second position, while Al Ittihad stayed in the sixth position with 29 points.
